Life Care Centers of America honored Rachel Unverzagt, senior executive director at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Houston, with its President’s Award for its Gulf States Region on Aug. 24, 2015.
The honor recognizes distinguished service in the long-term health care management role. The Gulf States Region includes eight skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Texas.
Unverzagt was praised for her expertise in dementia care and her strong sense of compassion. Under her leadership, Garden Terrace has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
“Rachel is a hands-on leader with boundless energy that is infectious, and she motivates her team to perform at ever-increasing heights,” said Tim Lynch, interim regional vice president. “Her efforts to engage and serve the local Alzheimer’s community are rooted in both professional and intensely personal experiences and guide the operational, clinical and cultural direction of the facility.”
As a senior executive director, Unverzagt has also had an impact on other Life Care facilities in Texas. She has helped to orient new leaders throughout the state and helped other centers with their plans for serving their communities.
“Rachel has demonstrated professional skill and compassion in dispatching her responsibilities to the associates, residents and families she serves,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president. “She has uniquely demonstrated a leadership style for others to emulate. This is a distinguished award to receive because it goes to the heart of our mission.”
Fifteen President’s Awards are presented annually to leaders of overall successful facilities or organizations within Life Care.
